Suns-Spurs Preseason Preview: Rest Decisions and Frontcourt Depth Loom Large

With stars questionable on both sides, San Antonio's relative health could decide this preseason meeting.

Preseason basketball is often less about the final score than about who actually takes the floor, and that is the central story as the Phoenix Suns visit the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with tip-off at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

The availability picture is cloudy on both sides. Devin Booker is listed as questionable for rest, as are San Antonio's Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle. If all three sit, the game shifts toward bench units and developmental minutes, and depth matters more than top-end talent. Phoenix has added concerns: Miles Bridges is questionable with an ankle issue, and center Mark Williams is out with a shoulder injury. That leaves the Suns thinner up front and on the wing. Beyond the rest candidates, San Antonio's only listed concern is Carter Bryant, questionable with an ankle problem.

Phoenix does have routes to production. Jalen Green scored 18 points in a recent game against San Antonio, which suggests he can be a go-to scorer if Booker rests. Khaman Maluach also posted 10 points and 15 rebounds against the Spurs in an earlier meeting. With Williams sidelined, his work on the glass could be especially important to keep Phoenix competitive in the paint.

Still, Phoenix's frontcourt thinness and wing questions give the edge to the home team, which has no one ruled out. I expect a choppy, rotation-heavy game that stays close before San Antonio's depth and home floor carry it late. Prediction: Spurs 112, Suns 106.
