Nickeil Alexander-Walker made 9 of his 15 three-point attempts and scored 34 points in 31 minutes Monday night, enough to carry the Hawks to a 108-104 win over the Pacers in Indianapolis. He took 25 shots in all and hit 12 of them. Atlanta's other starters were quiet by comparison: Luguentz Dort had 14, Onyeka Okongwu 13 and Dyson Daniels 6.
The game was decided early. Atlanta scored 37 in the first quarter to lead by eight, then added 31 more in the second for a 68-56 halftime edge. Indiana was playing the second night of a back-to-back without Tyrese Haliburton, who is out multiple weeks with a hamstring injury, and without Ivica Zubac, who has a sprained ankle. The Pacers still outscored Atlanta 23-19 in the third and 25-21 in the fourth, 48-40 over the second half. That cut the lead to eight going into the fourth and to four at the horn, but the Hawks never gave it all back.
Jay Huff led Indiana with 22 points and 8 rebounds on 8-of-14 shooting, and Quenton Jackson added 20. Braden Smith had a double-double with 19 points and 10 assists, and Kobe Brown scored 16. Jarace Walker played a game-high 45 minutes and scored 15. For Atlanta, CJ McCollum shot 4 of 17 but still posted a double-double with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists. Okongwu had one too, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Corey Kispert gave the Hawks 14 points in 18 minutes, hitting 4 of 7 from three. Jalen Johnson, listed as questionable with a sprained left ankle, did not play.
The win brought Atlanta to 4-4 after a 121-99 loss to New Orleans and a 1-4 slide, and it came without rookie Kingston Flemings, who was serving a one-game suspension for elbowing Bryce McGowens. It was the Hawks' third road win in five tries. Indiana fell to 2-6 and remains winless at home at 0-4.
