The Knicks trailed by four going into the fourth quarter Monday night, and then Brooklyn's offense stopped. The Nets scored 11 points in the final 12 minutes, New York scored 28, and a 79-75 Brooklyn lead became a 103-90 Knicks win at Madison Square Garden. It was New York's 15th straight victory over the Nets, who have not beaten the Knicks since January 2023.
The Nets had earned that lead with a 35-point third quarter, 11 more than New York managed in the period. Before that, the Knicks had controlled the game. They won the first quarter 27-21 and led 51-44 at halftime. Brooklyn's third erased that cushion and then some, and for a few minutes it looked as if the streak might end. It didn't. A Nets team that had scored 79 through three quarters finished with 90.
Landry Shamet led New York with 22 points off the bench, hitting 6 of 8 from the floor and 4 of 6 from three in 30 minutes. Jalen Brunson added 19 on 6-of-16 shooting, and OG Anunoby, who played a game-high 38 minutes, had 18. Karl-Anthony Towns scored only 11, but he took 16 rebounds and handed out five assists for a double-double. For a Knicks team that came in 2-4 with one of the league's weaker offenses, it was a win without any one big night.
Julius Randle, playing his first game at the Garden in a Nets uniform, drew loud applause from the crowd. He finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, a double-double, though he shot 5 of 16 and missed all four of his threes. Michael Porter Jr. scored 18 and Nolan Traore had 17 on 6-of-8 shooting, including 5 of 6 from deep. Mikel Brown Jr. added 13. Brooklyn came in off its first win of the season, 98-90 at Indiana on Sunday, and left 1-6.
