Tatum Sets the Pace as Celtics Pull Away From Magic, 108-97

Jayson Tatum scored 32 and Boston beat Orlando by 11 on a Sunday night that was one of four games on the NBA slate.

Boston won in Orlando, 108-97, on a Sunday that offered only four games before the full board returns Monday night. Celtics-Magic sat alongside Nets-Pacers, Clippers-Warriors and Raptors-Lakers, and Jayson Tatum made it the most watchable of them with 32 points and seven assists in 34 minutes.

The game also had some attention from the betting side. It turned up in the day's best-bets columns, though the pieces I saw offered little more than the matchup's name. Anyone who took the Celtics had an easy evening. Paul George added 17 points and eight assists, and Derrick White and Luka Garza each scored 12, Garza in only 21 minutes off the bench.

Orlando got what it needed from several places and still came up 11 short. Tristan da Silva had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Anthony Black matched his 23 and added eight boards. Franz Wagner scored only 14, but his 12 assists gave him a double-double, and he and Desmond Bane both played 40 minutes. Bane finished with 19 points.

Boston's depth made the difference over the final stretch. Neemias Queta had eight points and eight rebounds, and Payton Pritchard grabbed seven rebounds in 27 minutes. Wendell Carter Jr. pulled down 10 rebounds for Orlando but scored just seven, and Jase Richardson had four points in 26 minutes. The Celtics leave with the road win, and everybody else gets Monday's full slate.
