The Knicks scored 43 points in the first quarter, led 84-52 at the half, and let the second half take care of itself. The final was 135-105 in New York, a 30-point result that stretched Chicago's losing streak to six. The Bulls came in hoping the defending champions would be a soft place to end it. They were down 22 after one quarter and 32 by the break, and the night was settled long before the starters sat.

Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 33 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including five of 10 from three, and needed only 28 minutes to do it. Karl-Anthony Towns had a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds in 25 minutes without missing a shot, going 5-for-5 overall and 2-for-2 from deep. OG Anunoby added 18.

Chicago was led by Tre Jones and Jaylin Sellers, who each scored 14. Jones got his in 18 minutes on 5-of-8 shooting. Sellers hit four of his seven three-point tries in 14 minutes. The starters had a rough night from the floor: Norman Powell was 3-for-12 and 0-for-5 from three, and rookie Caleb Wilson was 2-for-12 for five points. Nic Claxton, who had been listed as questionable, did not play.

The Knicks' lead was 34 after three quarters, and the Bulls won the fourth 26-22, which changed nothing. New York's reserves were productive in limited time. Dalton Knecht had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Jordan Clarkson scored 10. James Wiseman grabbed eight rebounds in 10 minutes, and Andre Drummond had nine in 12. Nobody on either side played more than 28 minutes.
