Blazers Hold Off Warriors 123-118 on a 37-Point Fourth

Portland outscored Golden State 37-29... in the fourth, rather 37 to close out a 123-118 preseason win at Moda Center, with Deni Avdija leading the way.

Anyone who missed Wednesday night at Moda Center can catch up in a few minutes. Two outlets have posted short video packages of Portland's 123-118 preseason win over Golden State, and one of them is a reel devoted to the Warriors' dunks, which says something about how the visitors spent part of the evening.

Deni Avdija led the Blazers with 23 points, a useful answer to the question Sports Illustrated raised going in about how he would fit, and how often he would have the ball, on a roster so crowded with point guards. One game in October settles nothing, but he was the most productive player in a Portland uniform.

The Blazers did it late. They scored 36 in the first quarter, 21 in the second, 29 in the third and 37 in the fourth, and that last number decided it. Golden State led after the first quarter and played well in the third, but it could not match Portland's closing push, and a five-point final margin made for a game that stayed within reach until the end.

The larger questions will wait for the regular season. Portland has Lillard, Morant, Henderson and Holiday all in the backcourt, and with Lillard and Holiday likely to play little, the guard pairings are the thing to watch. This was also the Blazers' first chance to test what they had worked on in camp against someone in a different jersey, and the fourth quarter suggests some of it held. For Golden State, Kelly led all scorers with 24 points, and Terry filled the box score with 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals in the loss.
