The Clippers came to Minneapolis at 1-3, with three straight losses behind them and a game that was supposed to be a chance to steady themselves. It went the other way. Minnesota beat them 127-101, and the outcome was settled long before the final minutes. Darius Garland scored 24 for Los Angeles, but little around him held up.
The game was easy to find on Friday's schedule, since the TV and streaming listings were everywhere, and the Timberwolves gave viewers plenty to watch. They were 7.5-point favorites and covered with room to spare. The teams also combined for 228 points, well past the posted total of 222.5. LaMelo Ball scored 24 with seven assists in 29 minutes, and Jaden McDaniels led all players with 33 minutes, finishing with 23 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
Minnesota did this without Anthony Edwards. Chris Finch started Ayo Dosunmu in his place, and Dosunmu gave them 15 points and seven rebounds. The bench did a lot of the damage as well. Bones Hyland scored 19 in 20 minutes and handed out eight assists, and Terrence Shannon Jr. and Trey Lyles each added 10 or 11. Rudy Gobert pulled down 13 rebounds on a night when he barely needed to score, with nine points.
The Clippers have had little to work with, and that was obvious again. Beal, Ingram, Niederhauser and Strus are among those who have yet to play this season, and the shortage of shot creation keeps landing on others. Rui Hachimura, who came in shooting 10 of 38 with eight turnovers against three assists, finished with 12 points, five rebounds and no assists in 26 minutes. Brook Lopez added 13 and Keaton Wagler 12, but nothing here changed the picture of a team still searching for its first real footing.
