Grizzlies 111, Warriors 108: Memphis Takes a Three-Point Win at Chase Center

Memphis left Golden State with a 111-108 win on a night that gave Quinten Post a reunion with the team that drafted him.

The Memphis Grizzlies beat the Golden State Warriors 111-108 on Friday night at Chase Center, a three-point finish in a game that arrived with little context beyond the date, the matchup and where to find it on television. The night's real texture came from one player on the Memphis roster.

That player was Quinten Post, who spent his first NBA seasons with the Warriors and made no effort to dress up his feelings about facing them. "Tonight I just want to kill them, to be honest," he said beforehand. It was blunt, though he also thanked Golden State for drafting him, which left open whether he meant it as animosity or just the usual competitive jitters of a reunion.

How he got here is simple enough. Post signed a three-year, $30 million offer sheet with Memphis in July as a restricted free agent, and the Warriors chose not to match. They had seen what they were letting go. He came in as the 52nd pick and spent time in the G League, then became a useful rotation big, averaging 7.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 36.5 percent from three in 16.9 minutes across 109 games, 49 of them starts.

His early work in Memphis had been tidy. In his Grizzlies debut, a win over Utah, he scored seven points with a rebound in 19 minutes, making 3 of 4 shots and 1 of 2 from deep. Efficient and unshowy bench minutes are about what the Warriors knew from him, and a three-point loss at home will be a reminder of what that kind of player can be worth.
