Jerome's 31 Lead Grizzlies Past Kings, Who Fall to 0-3

Memphis moved to 3-0 with a 123-112 win in Sacramento, and Zach LaVine's 37 points could not keep the Kings from a winless start.

Sacramento is still looking for its first win. The Kings lost 123-112 to Memphis on Sunday night and are 0-3 to open 2026-27, after earlier defeats to the Clippers and the Trail Blazers. Those who had them pegged near the bottom of the league have not been contradicted yet, though this one was more competitive than the standings suggest.

Memphis, meanwhile, is 3-0 after earlier wins over Utah and Golden State, and it looks like the play-in sleeper some had picked it to be. Ty Jerome set the pace with 31 points and six assists in 32 minutes, and he made all 14 of his free throws. Rookie Cameron Boozer, the No. 3 pick and a popular name in the pregame prop columns, added 16 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Jaylen Wells also had 16, and Isaiah Stewart gave them 13 in 22 minutes.

The Grizzlies did this without Zach Edey, and Cedric Coward, listed as questionable, ended up starting and playing 32 minutes. He finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, a double-double of his own, so the absence that was supposed to cap Memphis' ceiling never did. Cam Spencer scored 13 off the bench in 16 minutes.

Sacramento got plenty from its main pieces. Zach LaVine played 40 minutes, the most of anyone, and scored 37, though he managed only two rebounds. Darius Acuff Jr. had 22 points and seven assists, Domantas Sabonis posted 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Precious Achiuwa had 12 and 10. That is two double-doubles for a team that lost by 11. Keegan Murray, who was questionable with left ankle capsulitis, did not play.

The difference was at the line and from three. Memphis made 24 of 27 free throws, while Sacramento made 14 of 22, and Achiuwa missed all six of his attempts. The Grizzlies also made 15 threes to the Kings' 10 and outrebounded them 54-44. Memphis won the second quarter 42-31 to lead 67-59 at halftime, was up 96-90 after three quarters, and won the fourth 27-22.
