Doncic Drops 42 With 13 Assists as Lakers Bury Heat 138-117 After a Third-Quarter Squeeze

Luka Doncic scored 42 and handed out 13 assists, and Los Angeles outscored Miami 32-21 in the third to turn a seven-point halftime edge into a 21-point win.

Luka Doncic scored 42 points with 13 assists and seven rebounds in 36 minutes Monday night, and the Lakers beat the Miami Heat 138-117 once a tied second quarter gave way to a third that Miami could not answer. Doncic shot 14 of 24, including 6 of 15 from three, and he was the one player on the floor who produced at both ends of the scoring ledger.

The Heat did not fold early. Los Angeles took the first quarter 37-30, then Miami matched the Lakers' 42 in the second and went to the locker room down only 79-72. The third quarter changed that. The Lakers outscored the Heat 32-21 and led 111-93 going into the fourth, and Miami never got the margin back to a range where it mattered. The final quarter went 27-24 Los Angeles, which was a formality.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led Miami with 30 points and 12 rebounds, going 10 of 17 from the field, though he missed all three of his three-point tries. Bam Adebayo had 16 points and nine rebounds, Klay Thompson added 19 on 4-of-7 shooting from deep, and Davion Mitchell hit all five of his shots, four of them threes, for 15. Austin Reaves gave Doncic the second scorer the Lakers needed with 27 points on 10 of 15. Walker Kessler turned in 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Sandro Mamukelashvili came off the bench for 13.

The Lakers are 6-2 and 4-1 at home. The Heat fall to 2-5, 1-2 on the road, and they spent most of this one chasing a game that got away from them in the third.
