Ty Jerome Scores 40 on 5-of-6 Shooting From Deep, and Memphis Still Loses 135-134 in Overtime

Jerome shot 14 of 22 and hit five threes in 37 minutes, but the Pelicans outscored the Grizzlies 11-10 in the extra period to take a one-point game in Memphis.

Ty Jerome did nearly everything a guard can do in 37 minutes. He scored 40 points on 14-of-22 shooting, made five of his six three-pointers, and added five rebounds and five assists. The Grizzlies lost 135-134 in overtime anyway, with the extra period going to New Orleans 11-10.

The Pelicans spread their scoring around, and two players tied for the team high. Zion Williamson had 25 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, a double-double on 9-of-15 shooting. Karlo Matkovic also had 25, on 9 of 13 from the floor and 5 of 8 from three, in 29 minutes as a starter. Derik Queen came off the bench for 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists on 7-of-13 shooting. Trey Murphy III played a game-high 40 minutes and finished with 18, as did Saddiq Bey.

Memphis led 31-34 after one only in the sense of being close, then took control of the second quarter, 31-25, and went to the break up 62-59. New Orleans turned the game in the third. It scored 41 points to Memphis's 33 and went into the fourth ahead 100-95. The Grizzlies answered by outscoring the Pelicans 29-24 over the last twelve minutes, which left it tied at 124 and sent the game to overtime.

Jerome had little help at the top of the scoring column, since nobody else in Memphis reached 20. Cameron Boozer had 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists, and Jaylen Wells scored 16. Isaiah Stewart added 14, and Cam Spencer had 13 points and seven assists in 19 minutes. Jeremiah Fears had 12 points and seven assists for New Orleans, though he made only 5 of 17 shots. The Pelicans survived on the margin in overtime.
