Celtics Flatten 76ers 144-106 in Preseason Rout at TD Garden

The Celtics treated this preseason game at TD Garden like a stress test and Philadelphia failed it. Boston beat the 76ers 144-106, a 38-point margin that was settled well before the fourth quarter ran out. Payton Pritchard led the scoring with 25 points off the bench in 24 minutes, and Jayson Tatum added 23 in 27.

The night's first real curiosity was the new starting group. Paul George and Mitchell Robinson opened together for the first time in Boston colors, and George finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes. Robinson played 14 minutes and had six points and five boards. Tatum called playing alongside George "surreal," and George admitted he came in with some extra nerves. They did not last long on the floor.

The glass was lopsided too. Boston outrebounded Philadelphia by nearly two to one, and the work came from all over the roster. Neemias Queta grabbed 10 in 19 minutes, Luka Garza had seven in 11, and Hugo Gonzalez added six to go with 17 points. Philadelphia rarely got a second look, and Boston rarely had to defend twice.

The game turned in the second and third quarters, when the Celtics' defense started taking the ball away in bunches and getting out the other way. Baylor Scheierman finished with eight assists on three points, and Derrick White scored 15. VJ Edgecombe led Philadelphia with 19 points, and Labaron Philon Jr. had 14 points and seven assists. Tyrese Maxey played 18 minutes and scored eight, and the 76ers never found a way to slow Boston down.
