For twelve minutes, Phoenix looked like a team that remembered the opener. The Suns led Portland 34-29 after one quarter. Then the Trail Blazers scored 43 in the second, outscored Phoenix by 18, and walked into halftime up 72-59. The Suns never recovered, and Portland won 132-119 at Phoenix.

Devin Booker scored 33 for Phoenix on 9-of-19 shooting, but he had just one rebound and two assists, and the help was thin. Jalen Green added 22 on 6-of-17 shooting. Miles Bridges had 18, hitting four of his seven threes. Dillon Brooks scored 15 on 7-of-15. Nobody else on the Suns reached double figures.

Portland had balance and efficiency. Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 25 points and five assists. Donovan Clingan was 9-of-12 for 24 points and 11 rebounds, a double-double in 29 minutes. Deni Avdija played a team-high 35 minutes and finished with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists, another double-double. Jrue Holiday came off the bench and made all five of his threes for 15 points.

The third quarter stretched the lead to 104-85, and Phoenix's 34-28 fourth only trimmed the final margin to 13. The Suns, now 1-5 and losers of four straight, were beaten 124-83 by these same Blazers in the opener. They begin a seven-game homestand with the same questions. Portland, at 6-1, keeps winning.
