Pregame AnalysisWizards Reshuffle Around Dybantsa and Thin Frontcourt Against Hornets
Washington's depth of scorers should edge a Charlotte team that may again own the glass.

Washington returns home with a rotation in flux and a rebounding problem that Charlotte has already exploited. The Wizards are coming off a frustrating loss to a depleted Hornets squad that dominated the glass, and the timing of Justin Champagnie's foot surgery makes that issue harder to fix. He was grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game, and he is expected to be out until around the All-Star break at best. Charlotte can again try to win this game on second chances.
The Wizards have to spread roughly 25 minutes of Champagnie's workload across the roster. Bilal Coulibaly and Tre Johnson are the prime candidates to absorb them, with Middleton and Riley also in the mix. Sarr and George could start next to AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 pick, who was set to make his NBA debut after missing four games with a sprained left ankle. His minutes are restricted, so he is more likely to be a spark than a foundation. That limit puts more pressure on the starters and on whoever fills the bench spots.
The starters should hold up. Trae Young and Anthony Davis, the newly acquired All-Stars, are each averaging more than 22 points per game during Washington's 2-2 start. Davis gives the Wizards their best chance to offset the rebounding gap, and Young's playmaking should create clean looks against a Charlotte team whose health is a question. The Hornets ruled out Kon Knueppel, Coby White and Grant Williams for their Oct. 28 game at Detroit, and their status here is worth checking before tip. If any of them are still sidelined, Charlotte's margin for error shrinks.
Expect a physical, uneven game in which Charlotte keeps it close through rebounding and Washington's rotation takes time to settle. The Wizards' top-end talent and home court give them a narrow advantage late. Prediction: Wizards 112, Hornets 108.
