Pregame AnalysisShort-Handed Clippers Face a Tough Road Test in Minnesota
Los Angeles arrives thin and searching for traction against a Timberwolves team of its own injury concerns.

The Clippers arrive in Minneapolis with more questions than answers, and the biggest one is the status of Rui Hachimura. He sat out Wednesday's Lakers game with left quad soreness, and Yahoo expects him back Friday for this NBA Cup group stage matchup. That is not confirmed, though, and it matters. If he plays, Los Angeles regains a forward who keeps the rotation from leaning so heavily on fill-in minutes. If he sits, Kobe Sanders is the likely stand-in, the same adjustment Ty Lue was set to make against the Lakers.
Depth is the larger concern. Against the Lakers, Beal, Ingram, Miller, Strus and Niederhauser were out or on the report alongside Hachimura, leaving only nine of 15 players available. Their Friday status is unclear, so the Clippers could again be asked to cover a full game with a trimmed group. That is a difficult task on the road, and it comes while they are trying to steady a season that stands at 1-2 after back-to-back losses.
Minnesota is not injury-free either. Anthony Edwards is reported to be set to miss significant time, a real blow to the Timberwolves' offensive creation. Ziaire Williams was listed out with a foot injury, although the report's date is unclear, so his availability here is uncertain. Even so, the Wolves can lean on home court and a healthier overall picture than the Clippers' bench-thin outlook.
I expect Los Angeles to compete if Hachimura returns, but the lack of available bodies should show up late, when fatigue and rotation limits matter most. Minnesota should do enough at home to grind out a controlled win, even without Edwards.
Prediction: Timberwolves 109, Clippers 101.
