Pregame AnalysisWarriors Carry Momentum Into Matchup With Road-Weary Heat
Golden State's four-game winning streak and a rookie breakout meet a Miami team still searching for traction.
This page is the pregame analysis. The box score is the main page for the game, and the matchup history collects every meeting between these teams.
The Warriors have climbed out of an 0-3 hole and arrive at 5-3 on a four-game winning streak. The most striking part of that run is how it was built. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg scored a career-high 37 points in a 124-112 win over the Clippers, the most by a Warriors rookie since Steph Curry in 2010, and he did it with Curry and Draymond Green out. That result suggests Golden State can find offense in places it did not expect, which matters against a Miami defense that just gave up 138 to the Lakers.
Miami's problems are easy to see. The Heat opened 0-4, won their last two games of October, then lost 138-117 to the Lakers to begin a five-game road trip. They sit at 2-5, and this stop in San Francisco is an early test of whether the trip can be salvaged. Their ceiling is still high, though. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 31 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists in a 145-125 win over Indiana, and Bam Adebayo added 27. Giannis is listed as probable with a wrist injury, so his availability and effectiveness will decide how competitive Miami can be.
The matchup comes down to whether Miami's two stars can score efficiently enough to offset a defense that has been porous on the road. If Giannis plays near his best, the Heat can keep pace, and he and Adebayo give them a legitimate inside-out attack. But the Warriors have the better recent form, the home floor, and a young scorer playing with confidence. Miami's trade chatter around Kyrie Irving, which Dallas has resisted, also underscores an unsettled roster.
I expect Miami to score, but Golden State's momentum and home-court edge should be enough in a high-scoring game. Prediction: Warriors 121, Heat 113.
