The Golden State Warriors beat the Sacramento Kings 111-106 on Saturday night, October 10, at home in a preseason game that stayed within a possession or two of five points for long enough to keep the starters' minutes honest. The Kings were the visitors. They left with a third straight loss in exhibition play.

Most of the pregame talk was about Ben Simmons. He hasn't played in an NBA game in well over a year, and his expected first appearance in a Kings uniform made this a bigger date than a mid-October exhibition usually is. Around the league, the question was less about a stat line than about what role he might have and how he would look back on a floor.

Sacramento had other things to sort out. The Kings came in 0-2, having dropped a home-and-away pair to the Lakers while missing players in both games, and the roster they could put on the floor in the Bay was still unsettled. Losing here makes it 0-3. In October that matters less as a record than as a sign that the rotation has yet to settle.

A short highlights package went up afterward, and it shows the shape of the game without much detail. For the Warriors, a win over a depleted opponent is what it is. For the Kings, the work now is getting healthy bodies and a clearer rotation before the games count.
