On paper, this had the look of the game that humbles a team. Memphis was unbeaten, Sacramento was not, and the Kings had every reason to arrive with nothing to lose. The Grizzlies never gave them the chance to make it uncomfortable. They beat the Kings 136-105 on Saturday night at FedExForum, and the margin was never really in doubt after the first stretch of the game.
For Sacramento, the evening was one more entry in a start that has gone nowhere. The Kings came in 0-5 and left with the same absence in the win column. Darius Acuff Jr. did what he could, scoring 38 points in 37 minutes, and Domantas Sabonis put up 11 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists across 38 minutes, the most of anyone on the floor. De'Andre Hunter added 19. But the Kings had little behind that group, and Memphis kept putting points on the board in waves.
The Grizzlies are now 6-0, which ties the best start in franchise history, set in 2014-15, and they are the only team in the league yet to lose. Cameron Boozer led them with 27 points and nine rebounds. Isaiah Stewart scored 24 in 21 minutes off the bench, and GG Jackson added 21 in the same time. Jerami Grant chipped in 14. It was the kind of depth that makes a lopsided score look easy.
Ty Jerome sat out with upper back soreness after being listed as questionable, and Cam Spencer took his place in the starting lineup. Spencer handled it well, finishing with 10 points and 13 assists for a double-double. Sacramento did not have that kind of cushion. The Kings were without four important players for the fourth straight game, Keegan Murray among them, and a roster that thin had little chance of sustaining a push against a team playing like Memphis is right now.
