Nine points. That was all Orlando produced in the third quarter Monday night, and it turned a tight game into a Washington win, 103-94, at the Kia Center. The Wizards scored 19 in the same stretch and went from a one-point lead at the break to 11 ahead entering the fourth.
The Magic had started well enough, taking the first quarter 33-28. Washington won the second 32-26 to lead 60-59 at halftime, and then the game turned. Anthony Davis led all scorers with 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting and added 9 rebounds. Kyshawn George gave him real help with 22 points, including four threes on eight tries. AJ Dybantsa scored 21. Trae Young had only 15 points, but he handed out 9 assists.
Orlando's best work came from its two main scorers, and it wasn't enough. Franz Wagner scored 24 on 10-of-18 shooting and played 38 minutes, the most of anyone. Desmond Bane added 20, hitting four of his ten three-point attempts. Beyond those two, the shooting was thin. Tristan da Silva went 4-of-14, including 2-of-10 from deep, and finished with 10. Wendell Carter Jr. grabbed 9 rebounds but scored 6.
The Magic did win the fourth quarter 26-24, but that only trimmed an 11-point deficit to 9. Washington moves to 4-3 and has now won two of its four road games. Orlando falls to 2-5 and is 0-4 at home, a record that gets harder to explain each time the Magic play in front of their own crowd.
