The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Miami Heat 125-124 on Saturday night in Miami, a preseason game that came down to a single point and not much else in the way of plot. Nothing about the night declared itself as a statement, and in October that is usually how it goes. The final score is the clearest thing to report.

Minnesota's scoring came from the guard spots and the wings. Bones Hyland led all players with 23 points in just 21 minutes, and Zyon Pullin added 22 over 28. Terrence Shannon Jr. put up 19 points and six rebounds, and KJ Martin gave them 12 in 17 minutes off the bench. Joan Beringer finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, and Trey Lyles had eight rebounds to go with four points.

Miami had the minutes leader in Ryan Conwell, who played 32 and finished with 22 points, nine assists and five rebounds. Vladislav Goldin scored 18 in 23 minutes, Nikola Jovic had 16 points and six rebounds, and Pelle Larsson and Simone Fontecchio each chipped in 14. Myron Gardner added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. The Heat put six players in double figures and still came up short.

Nick Richards pulled down 10 rebounds in 25 minutes for Miami but scored only seven, and Tre Donaldson played 15 minutes as a starter and scored two. Those details will matter less than the margin, which was one possession's worth of nothing in particular. Both teams get to move on to the next exhibition.
