Pregame AnalysisHeat Look to Build on Preseason Momentum Against Shorthanded Timberwolves
Miami's 2-0 preseason start and Minnesota's guard shortage tilt this exhibition toward the Heat.

Preseason results should be read lightly, but Miami arrives with something to build on. The Heat are 2-0 after a 128-108 home win over New Orleans, and a roster rebuilt around Giannis Antetokounmpo is showing early signs of coming together. That result matters here because Miami gets another home look at a group still learning how to play together.
Minnesota's biggest problem is on the perimeter. Donte DiVincenzo is out with a long-term Achilles injury, and ESPN does not expect him back soon, even though he remains confident he will return during the 2026-27 season. His absence removes a guard from the rotation, which could leave the Timberwolves leaning harder on their remaining ball handlers and thinner backcourt groups, especially if Miami pushes the pace and turns the game into a transition contest.
The Heat are not without issues. Six newcomers are still integrating, and Erik Spoelstra must settle the rotation and solve the spacing for Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, who are both most effective near the basket. Miami also wants one more guard for the final roster spot, and illness or injuries involving Dru Smith, Keshad Johnson and Pelle Larsson will thin the depth. Expect some uneven stretches, particularly when reserves are on the floor.
Still, the Heat have the stronger recent form, home court and a clearer edge in available guard depth. Minnesota should stay competitive for stretches, but Miami's star power and early rhythm should be enough. I like the Heat to win a relatively comfortable preseason game, 114-106.
