Biography

Giannis Antetokounmpo is a forward for the Miami Heat and one of the most decorated two-way players of his generation. Born on December 6, 1994, in Athens to Nigerian parents, Antetokounmpo played professionally for Filathlitikos in Greece before the Milwaukee Bucks selected him with the 15th pick of the 2013 NBA Draft. His combination of length, speed, ball handling and interior force turned a raw prospect into a franchise player.

During 13 seasons in Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo won NBA Most Valuable Player awards in 2019 and 2020, Defensive Player of the Year in 2020 and the 2017 Most Improved Player award. He led the Bucks to the 2021 championship and earned Finals MVP after scoring 50 points in the title-clinching Game 6. His résumé also includes selection to the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team, 10 All-Star appearances and nine All-NBA selections through the 2025-26 season.

Milwaukee traded Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to Miami in July 2026, closing the defining era of modern Bucks basketball. He joined the Heat after an injury-shortened 2025-26 season in which he averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 36 games. Miami acquired him as the centerpiece of another championship pursuit, pairing his rim pressure, transition play and defensive versatility with the Heat's established core.
