Biography
Jalen Duren is a center for the Detroit Pistons whose strength, rebounding and finishing have made him one of the league's leading young interior players. Born on November 18, 2003, in New Castle, Delaware, Duren played at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia and Montverde Academy before spending one season at Memphis. He earned American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year honors and helped Memphis reach the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
The Charlotte Hornets selected Duren with the 13th pick of the 2022 NBA Draft, and his rights were traded to Detroit on draft night. He immediately became part of the Pistons' young core, earning NBA All-Rookie Second Team recognition in 2023. His game is built around physical screens, rim runs, offensive rebounding and efficient finishing, while his passing and defensive responsibilities have expanded with experience.
Duren made a major leap in 2025-26. He averaged career highs of 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 65 percent across 70 starts, earning his first All-Star selection and a place on the All-NBA Third Team. His production helped Detroit secure the Eastern Conference's top seed. After a prolonged restricted-free-agency negotiation, the Pistons committed to Duren as a long-term centerpiece with a fully guaranteed five-year contract.

Current contract
Duren signed a five-year, fully guaranteed contract with Detroit in October 2026. ESPN reported the agreement at approximately $200 million, giving it an average annual value of about $40 million. The contract covers the 2026-27 through 2030-31 seasons.
The agreement ended a four-month restricted-free-agency standoff shortly before Duren's deadline to accept a one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer. Neither Detroit nor ESPN reported options in the new contract. A season-by-season salary allocation has not been included because the annual breakdown was not publicly disclosed in the reviewed sources.
