Biography

Kevin Durant is a forward for the Houston Rockets and one of the most accomplished scorers in basketball history. Born on September 29, 1988, in Washington, D.C., and raised in the Maryland suburbs, Durant developed into an elite prospect before playing one season at the University of Texas. He swept the major national player-of-the-year awards as a freshman, and the Seattle SuperSonics selected him with the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.

Durant won Rookie of the Year in 2008 and became the centerpiece of the franchise after its move to Oklahoma City. His combination of guard skills, length and shooting touch produced four scoring titles and the 2014 NBA MVP award. He later won consecutive championships and Finals MVP awards with Golden State in 2017 and 2018, then continued his career with Brooklyn and Phoenix. Durant has earned repeated All-Star and All-NBA selections and won four Olympic gold medals with the United States, becoming the leading scorer in U.S. men's Olympic basketball history.

Houston acquired Durant from Phoenix in the record seven-team trade completed in July 2025. In his first season with the Rockets, he averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists across 78 games while shooting 52.0 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from three-point range. He opened 2026-27 with 30 points on 62.5 percent shooting, showing that his efficient shot creation remains central to Houston's championship ambitions.
