Biography

Stephen Curry is a guard for the Golden State Warriors and one of the defining players of his generation. Born on March 14, 1988, in Akron, Ohio, Curry grew up in a basketball family as the son of longtime NBA guard Dell Curry. He played three seasons at Davidson, where his shooting range and scoring carried the Wildcats to the 2008 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. He led the nation in scoring as a junior before Golden State selected him seventh overall in the 2009 NBA Draft.

Curry became the centerpiece of the Warriors team that transformed modern NBA offense through pace, spacing, movement and high-volume three-point shooting. He helped Golden State win championships in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022. His individual honors include league MVP awards in 2015 and 2016—the latter the first unanimous MVP vote in NBA history—and the 2022 NBA Finals MVP award. He is the NBA's career leader in made three-pointers and has combined elite shooting with ball handling, off-ball movement and playmaking throughout his career.

Beyond the numbers, Curry's long partnership with Golden State has defined an era for the franchise. The 2026 extension positions him to remain with the only NBA organization he has played for through a potential 20th season.

Current contract

Curry is scheduled to earn a reported $62.6 million in 2026-27, the final season of the one-year extension he signed in August 2024. In September 2026, he and the Warriors agreed to a new two-year, $116 million extension covering 2027-28 and 2028-29.

ESPN reported salaries of approximately $55.7 million in 2027-28 and $60.2 million in 2028-29. The final season is a player option. The extension keeps Curry under contract through the 2028-29 season if he exercises that option, which would be his 20th NBA season, and was agreed below the maximum amount for which he was eligible to give Golden State additional future flexibility.
